                                                          A living relic (Ivan Turgenev)

Todays lesson we spend analysing a work of Ivan Turgenev "A Living Relic". In general story was intriguing but some concepts of it were unclear especially religious part of the passage , for that reason I made a research on a historical content of the story . I was interested the way  historical content metamorphosis perception of the story ,  on the grounds of it I composed my opinion piece.

Turgenev had very complicated relationships with his mother ,as he disrespected her  attitude  towards the serfs,  these affected his further relationship with woman's in the same way reflecting on his novels and  stories. It is clearly portrayed in his work "A living Relic" where  mother of the narrator a pointed as despotic estate owner. He liked to portray a strong female characters in his novels , example of this is a disabled girl Lukerya. In the story Lukerya portrayed as a iron willed  girl . She taking all her pain with a passion refusing any external help from the people , as she knew that because of her health issue  she wont be able to pay back to their kindness.

Writer mentions issues with a church in that time , thats were slightly a pointed in a scene where priest visited Lukerya .When in dialog Lukerya mentioned her visions priest claims that this is nothing more then a dreams , as she aren't chosen and disciplined in a church  . I was unfamiliar with an attitude of the priest and his statements. After  research on topic of religion in 19 century in Russia , I found out that   in 19 century orthodox church were one of the greatest powers in Russian Empire . Unfortunately they used their influence for the benefits.

I was deeply impressed how a bit of additional information can affect my understanding of the story.
